In Louisiana, we’re focusing our repowering efforts on our Big Cajun I and Big Cajun II power plants.
At Big Cajun I, our plan calls for replacing two gas-fueled boilers with one new Circulating Fluidized Bed unit. This unit will produce the same amount of electricity (powering 200,000 homes) while providing the flexibility to burn more economical petroleum coke and coal and carbon-neutral, renewable biomass.
At Big Cajun II, a coal facility, our plan is to add a fourth generating unit, which would bring 705 megawatts (MW) of low-cost, stable, electric generating capacity to the region — enough to power 560,000 homes. This enhancement will utilize the best available emission control technologies to comply with all environmental standards to reduce air emissions. |
