NRG Energy is working to bring more environmentally friendly and reliable sources of energy to the state of New York. With projects underway at Huntley Station and Dunkirk in upstate New York, we are focused on enhancements that will provide New York residents with price-stable energy with minimal impact to the environment.

Huntley Station, the oldest continuously operating coal-fueled generation station in the United States, is poised to become home to one of the industry’s newest and most advanced “clean coal” technologies—Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC). This innovative new technology can enable the plant to better utilize domestically produced coal—the country’s most abundant and affordable fuel source. The plant will be designed to capture up to 65% of carbon dioxide emissions and is scheduled to begin operating in 2013.
